Modern Data Movement for a Proven Platform
PropelZ — our no-code ELT engine for moving enterprise data to the cloud and modern databases — is now available on IBM i (AS/400). That means organizations running IBM i can land operational data where teams need it (analytics platforms, data lakes, SIEM tools, AI pipelines, etc.) with a lightweight install and the same JDBC-based targets you already know.

Why IBM i, Why Now?
PropelZ began life on IBM Z (z/OS), where it reliably moves mainframe data into cloud and distributed targets with point-and-click simplicity. But as we talked with customers and partners, one theme kept surfacing: the same “move data where it’s needed” problem exists beyond z/OS — especially for organizations running IBM i (AS/400).
From our internal design discussions:
- Customers want to run the data mover where the data lives to avoid unnecessary hops and minimize system capacity usage.
- Many environments (IBM i, VSEn, UNIX, Linux, Windows, macOS, VM-based systems) already have a Java runtime, which lets us deliver a consistent PropelZ experience across platforms.
- Packaging for non-Z platforms also enables simpler distribution options and marketplace delivery models.
The result is straightforward: the PropelZ engine now runs anywhere you have Java, including IBM i (AS/400).
A Brief History: IBM i (AS/400)
First introduced in 1988 as the AS/400, the platform is renowned for its stability, security, and integrated architecture. Over the decades, it evolved into IBM i, running on IBM Power Systems hardware, and continues to power critical business applications worldwide.
IBM i’s tight integration of database, security, and application runtimes has made it a backbone for industries ranging from banking and insurance to retail and manufacturing. Now, with PropelZ, organizations can extend that heritage into the cloud era — without rewriting applications or disrupting proven operations.
How PropelZ for IBM i Powers Modernization
PropelZ is a no-code ELT tool built to extract enterprise data, land it in JDBC-compatible targets, and let downstream platforms handle transform and analyze. On IBM i, that means you can:
- Feed analytics and BI on platforms like Snowflake, BigQuery, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and more.
- Stream operational data to observability and security tools, including Splunk and Elastic, for compliance and monitoring.
- Share data with external and internal apps quickly, with repeatable pipelines and minimal ops work.
- Adopt hybrid-cloud patterns at your pace — keep systems of record on IBM i while activating governed copies elsewhere.
Supported Platforms Today
PropelZ now runs on the following, giving you one tool from mainframe to cloud to desktop:
- IBM Z (z/OS): Full support for mainframe files (e.g., VSAM and sequential); zIIP-eligible
- IBM VSE / VSEn (21CS)
- IBM i (AS/400)
- UNIX
- Linux
- Windows
- macOS
- VM-based systems
- Any Java-enabled environment
Next Steps
If you run IBM i (AS/400) and want fast, low-friction data movement to modern targets, we’d love to set up a short briefing and a hands-on proof of value. Most teams are up and moving data in days, not months.
